Upper Mill, nr Limavady, Co Londonderry, Northern Ireland
Upper Mill is an outstanding period property set in forty acres of rolling Ulster farmland bordered by fields and meadows, an ancient rookery and a gently-flowing stream. Guests are free to explore the rambling grounds, which have been in the same family for nearly two centuries.
The former flour mill overlooks a small courtyard at the end of a farm track, with one wing recently renovated to the highest possible standards to create a unique and enchanting home which sleeps up to nine people. Original features include numerous 'port-hole' windows, an immense timbered ceiling, and a row of stone water troughs in the hallway.
Four spacious bedrooms - one with a large balcony - enjoy magnificent views over unspoilt countryside, while the sixty-foot long living area is truly a place in which to spread yourself out and relax. There is oil-fired central heating throughout.
Upper Mill is convenient for many of Northern Ireland's top attractions, including the world-famous Giant's Causeway, the superb seven-mile Blue Flag beach at Benone, and the wild and mysterious Glens of Antrim. The area is renowned for its rich range of sporting activities, including, angling, surfing, gliding, sailing and horse-riding. Golf courses in the area include Royal Portrush - rated one one of the most challenging courses in the world - Portstewart, Castlerock, Roe Valley, Foyle International and City of Derry.
Belfast and Londonderry are within easy reach, as are the border with the Irish Republic and the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal. The seaside resort of Portrush, with its numerous attractions for children and internationally acclaimed golf course, is also close by. The market town of Limavady - home to the celebrated Londonderry Air, better known as Danny Boy - is two miles down the road and will meet all your shopping needs.
On arrival at the mill, you will be given notes containing scores of ideas on how to make the most of your stay, including how to enjoy a tipple at the world's oldest whiskey distillery, where to go for pub sing-songs, how to find Ireland's tiniest church, and where to test your courage on a rope bridge strung eighty feet above a swirling sound. You'll even be told where to find a secret glade near the mill where people swear they have seen leprechauns!
If you just want to 'chill at the mill', there's pool and snooker, and a large selection of books and board games. We promise you won't have a dull moment.
